about

I wrote a poem a few years ago, and it wanted to be a song, but I just didn't have the right melody. Sheldon presented me with a piece of gentle, rippling music during the making of this album, and my mind went directly to these words. I pulled them out, and recorded the vocal in one take over his practically fully formed instrumental. Torch wanted to be married, and was just waiting for the right one to come along.

lyrics

You could look it head on
You could grab your coat and head for the door
Track the line that leads you on the floor
Buck like horses head first into the smoke

She holds a torch to heaven
A beacon or a weapon in this

Man is all-consuming
Men are so confusing in some things
Holding pattern still and moving
Direct line into the smoke

Thieves steal lines and inspiration
From the ones in the thick of it all
Steady yourselves for an empire’s fall
Which side decides who’s to crawl

You could look it head on
You could grab your coat and head for the door
Track the line that leads you on the floor
Buck like horses head first into the smoke

Life in a bow shot like an arrow
The sky is wide the roads are narrow cuts
Gouging in to travel the world
Wounds that silence cries and gather dust
